You Make the Call 7 Body Check

Hit of the year or unpunished penalty?  You make the call.

On this October 4, 2014 installment of You Make the Call, 5′ 8″ St. Thomas Star Brett Van Dusen sent 6′ 3″ Strathroy Rockets defenseman Matt Knight-Bedour’s helmet flying after this crushing body check.  No penalty was called on the play.  Was it a clean thunderous body check or did Van Dusen get away with “the check of the year”?  You make the call.

Van Dusen left his feet, launching himself from the goal line to hit him and Knight-Bedour’s helmet came off, and the visor detached itself from the helmet. That tells me there was contact made with the head and should have been a check to the head, and possibly charging. BUT, in my opinion, it was a nice hit. Had it been my team, it would have been cowbell worthy.

It was a clean hit. But we all know Bowen would’ve gotten a 5 & a game misconduct. He plays under a different set of rules. lol
