An 11-2 whitewashing of the last place St. Marys Lincolns by the Strathroy Rockets at the WMMC in Strathroy on Saturday, November 15 moved the Rockets into a fourth place tie with the idle LaSalle Vipers.

The Vipers do have two games in hand on the Rockets.

The Rockets had a horrible start to the season winning just once in their first eight games. At the end of September the Rockets were tied for last place with the Lincolns with 2 points each.

Since the departure of their 3-year captain and five-year veteran Tyler Duarte to the Leamington Flyers on October 24 the Rockets have won seven of nine games. With Duarte in the lineup the Rockets were 4-10.

The win was the Rockets third in a row and fifth in a row at home.

The Rockets led by period scores of 3-1 and 8-2.

Brett Dalton, Nick Griffin, Lucas Latina and Dan Chapman each scored twice. Nick Whitworth, Sam Vokes and Mark MacAulay added singles.

Garrett James and Mitch Read replied for the Lincolns.

Latina and Whitworth’s goals were their first goals of the season. Dylan Newman, who picked up two assists on the night, earned his first points of the season.

Whitworth, Latina and Chapman all had 3-point nights.

Mat Ouellet earned the win in goal for the Rockets while Tyler Beattie took the loss.

The Rockets outshot the Lincolns 57-33. St. Marys went 1 for 6 on the powerplay while the Rockets were 0 for 3.

One of Griffin’s goals was shorthanded.

The last time the Rockets scored 11 goals in a game was an 11-2 win in St. Thomas over the Stars on October 18, 2013.

The Entertainment Tonight Players of the Game for the Rockets were Latina, Griffin and Eddie Schulz.
