Count ‘em up. Looks like 9 saves by Rocket netminder Dane Gubbels against the Sarnia Legionnaires, several of the incredibly difficult variety, during this Sarnia powerplay late in the third period.

Dane came into the game in relief of starter Mat Ouellet who was pulled at 11:16 of the second period after giving up five goals. The Rockets trailed 5-1 at the time.

Dane was perfect turning aside every Sarnia shot he faced and inspiring his teammates for a spirited comeback. The Rockets would score three times in the third period on goals by Stuart King, Eddie Schulz and Nick Griffin but eventually ran out of time in a narrow 5-4 setback to the Legionnaires.

In Dane’s four appearances this season since being signed from the Mount Brydges Bulldogs after former Rocket goaltender Tynan Lauziere requested a trade, Dane has been selected as the game’s first star three times and the second star once by the Rocket coaching staff.
