I just saw this on Twitter!

There is finally good news for former Kitchener Dutchmen defenseman John Divo.

Divo learned Thursday that there was a match found for a much-needed stem cell transplant.

The date has been scheduled for March 26, but Divo will be admitted to hospital in Hamilton about a week prior for pre-transplant treatment.

The phone call from the doctor came Thursday morning while Divo was sleeping.

“My dad actually got the phone call, and he was the first to find out,” said Divo. “Then he came and woke me up and gave me the good news.”

Divo was diagnosed with leukemia in late December 2013 and he learned he was in need of a stem cell donation in late 2014.

Neither the donor nor Divo know of each other yet, but if both sides agree to meet one year after the transplant, their identities will be revealed to each other. Divo says he plans to find out when he can.

“I would love to know who the donor is,” said Divo.
