The Midwestern Conference Guelph Hurricanes defeated the Western Conference Strathroy Rockets 9-2 at the Western Fair Community Centre on September 12, 2015 during the 2015 Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase.

The Hurricanes dominated the entire contest enjoying a wide advantage in territorial play leading by period scores of 3-0 and 8-1 and outshooting the Rockets 33-22.

Cameron Strokes, Corson Searles and Brody Milne paced the Guelph attack with a pair of goals each.  Stephano Pezzetta, Ryan Waterhouse and Alex Richie added singles.

Newly appointed Rocket captain Matt Laberge and newcomer Riley O’Connell replied for the Rockets.

Veteran Matt Ouellet absorbed the loss for the Rockets allowing 5 goals on 18 shots.  Dane Gubbels allowed 4 goals on 15 shots in relief.

Christian Propp earned the win in goal for the Hurricanes turning aside 20 of 22 shots.  He had to be particularly sharp in the first period stopping Nick Griffin and Steve Griggs on breakaways.

Strathroy went 1 for 8 on the powerplay while Guelph was 1 for 4.  The Hurricanes lone powerplay marker came in the third period on a two-man advantage.

The Rockets lost a large number of players from last year’s squad.  They dressed only two returning forwards, Nick Griffin and Greg Milne and two returning defensemen, Matt Laberge and Dalton Good.

Strathroy were much smaller than the Guelph squad and were easily maneuvered by the Hurricanes.

The Rockets will play their final game of the Showcase on Sunday afternoon against the Golden Horseshoe Thorold Blackhawks at 4:30pm.  Guelph will be tested when they tangle with the two-time defending Sutherland Cup champion Caledonia Corvairs of the Golden Horseshoe Conference Sunday evening at 7:15pm.
