Flyers To Hold “PINK ON THE RINK” – by C. Scott Holland
The Leamington Flyers have been doing a “Pink On The Rink” in support of breast cancer awareness for almost a decade.
It has become an annual tradition that the Flyers wear pink jerseys and skate laces as part of the effort to raise money to support the cause and every year that they do this event it draws a greater awareness and increases funds needed for research.
This season’s event will take place this coming Thursday Oct. 22 when the Flyers host the St. Thomas Stars at the Highbury Canco Arena 7:30 pm.
Besides the special jerseys which will be auctioned off via a silent auction, there are food items, prizes and staff and fans all wearing pink. Many of the Flyers also take part in the community event which usually involves a walk/run.
Public support at this event has always been keen and it is hoped this year to generate a generous amount which will be given to the local chapter of Breast Cancer research. Being active within the community and lending a hand in the fight for a valid cause is part of what being a Flyers and GOJHL player is all about.
Any kind of support you can give will be greatly appreciated not only by the survivors but by the Flyers and anyone with future diagnosis of the disease. Do your share and help!
