Stars’ Forthcoming Fundraisers – by C. Scott Holland
One of the most active community-minded teams are the St. Thomas Junior B Stars and the list of forthcoming fundraising events includes three major ones prior to the Christmas break.
Starting off the Stars’ effort is a Food Drive this coming Tuesday – November 17. Members of the Stars hockey club will be canvassing door-to-door throughout St. Thomas in their annual effort to gather non-perishable food items to help the Christmas Care program.
Stars’ President of the Board of Directors, Tammy Ford said, “We used to hold it on Saturday mornings but changed it to a week night. All items donated will go to the Christmas Care program and your generosity is greatly appreciated.”
Coming close on the heels of that is the Toy Mountain Drive and as Ford explained, “It took the place of our Teddy Bear Toss. We came up with it because of the arena netting being added which eliminated the bear toss.” The Toy blitz will occur on November 28th. This new option has been highly successful for the last four or five years and includes a wide range of drop off locations throughout St. Thomas. (These locations can be found on the Stars website homepage.)
Tammy Ford added, “You can also donate cash …It’s always a highlight of the players’ season when we send them out shopping for toys with the donated money.”
The team’s annual Bazar will be at the December 6th home game along with a prize table on the mezzanine level.
Finally the Stars will hold their 4th annual Operation Fill The Rink night on Friday, December 18 when they host the Leamington Flyers. Advance tickets are $5 general admission, $2 for children under 12. The promotion is sponsored by 94.1 myFM.
Thanks to the St. Thomas Stars and their players, staff and volunteers, Christmas around the St. Thomas region will be much brighter for many families and their children.
