Cambridge and Elmira Complete Player Swap – by C. Scott Holland
In one of the biggest player trades this season, the Cambridge Winterhawks and Elmira Sugar KIngs sent a couple of players packing and heading towards the opposition.
The transaction involves an exchange of two defensemen from each club.
Cambridge sent 20 year-old vet Kalob Witzell, a 180 lbs., 6′ 2″ Kitchener native to the Sugar Kings along with 19 year-old Beau Goehrum an Etobicoke, Ont. resident who is in his fourth GOJHL season. Goehrum is 5′ 11″ and weighs 185 lbs.. Witzell has played in 180 career games while Goehrum has 115 under his belt.
The Sugars traded 17 year-old rookie, 5′ 11″ Harlen VanWynsberghe, plus 18 year-old Mitch Montgomery, a Cambridge native who is 5′ 10″ and 175 lbs. to Cambridge.
Cambridge is trying to secure the eighth and final Mid-West playoff spot while Elmira is presently fifth and hoping to improve their roster for the stretch run and playoffs.
