LaSalle Vipers To Host “Link To Literacy Night” At Vollmer Centre.
On Jan. 27, the LaSalle Vipers will celebrate the joy of reading when they host their first annual “Link To Literacy Night.” The event is sponsored by the Windsor Family Credit Union and will be held at the Vollmer Centre.
The Vipers are asking fans to bring books which can be donated to Link To Literacy, a local, grassroots program initiated by Tamye Machina.
All books collected will be given to local children who have challenging family situations in economically disadvantaged areas. Many of these children and family have no access to buy books or have transportation to libraries.
“Owning a book is such a great motivator for children to want to read, learn and achieve success in school and life,” Machina says.
Link To Literacy aims to accomplish this goal by using the donations to put books directly into the hands of children, rather than using them to restock library shelves.
Please ensure that books are in good condition, not written or coloured in, with no ripped pages. The Link to Literacy program is looking for books suitable for children from kindergarten to Grade 8.
That same night the Vipers will host the St. Thomas Stars – game time is 7 pm.
