January Players of Month – Mid-West and West Conferences – by C. Scott Holland
The Mid-West and Wet Conferences of the GOJHL have announced their players of the month for January with six exceptional players garnering the honours.

Offensive Player of Month was bestowed upon Elmira Sugar Kings forward Ethan Skinner. The 18 year-old Kincardine, Ont. native displayed his skills in all facets of the game while bashing six goals and adding 15 assists to allow him to sit fourth in overall GOJHL scoring with 78 points.

Defensive Player of Month was handed to Kitchener Dutchmen rearguard Taite Wirschke. The 5′ 7″ Kitchener native is a main reason why the Dutchmen have solidified their hold on first place as his work ethic allows him to shut down the opposition.

Goaltender of Month went to Kitchener Dutchmen netminder Cossimo Lazzarino who appeared in five contests and won four of them. The 18 year-old Kleinburg, Ont. resident halted 141 of 150 shots he faced in that span.

Offensive Player of Month – It comes as no surprise that Sarnia Legionnaires’ forward Ryan Vendramin plucked the award. the Sault Ste. Marie native appeared in 12 games for the Legionnaires and netted 8 goals while aiding on 12 others.  Based on his average points per game, had he not missed so many games this season, Ryan would be the Western Conference scoring leader.

Defensive Player of Month was bestowed upon Leamington Flyers defenseman Zak Parlette. The Amherstburg, Ont. resident, who is a second year defenseman with the Flyers and is an assistant captain this season, has played solidly in his 10 January appearances in helping Leamington remain at the top of the West.

Goaltender of Month – For the third time this season Leamington Flyers rookie goalie Tyler Wall has captured the coveted award. The Leamington resident’s sparkling rookie season continued to amaze fans and NHL scouts in January with six victories in seven starts and stopping 161 of 171 pucks that came his way.

Congratulations fto all recipients from the GOJHL and their respective teams.
