The Strathroy Rockets suffered a pair of back-to-back shutouts on the road to the Chatham Maroons and the LaSalle Vipers.  Prior to the two road losses the Rockets earned a victory over the Vipers on home ice.  The two points left the Rockets in a 6th place tie with Maroons, one point behind the St. Thomas Stars and the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Historically over the last several years the Vipers and the Rockets have struggled greatly playing in the other team’s home rink.  The Rockets have won just 2 season series in LaSalle/Tecumseh over the previous 15 years while the Vipers have won just 2 season series at the WMMC in Strathroy over the previous 12 seasons.

On Wednesday, October 18 at the Volmer Recreation Complex in LaSalle the Rockets were narrowly blanked 2-0 by the Vipers.  The win moved LaSalle into sole possession of third place.  LaSalle wasted little time in trying to establish dominance over the Rockets but they ran into another determined performance from Rocket goaltender Weir.  The first period ended scoreless despite a 15-4 Viper shot advantage.  Underage rookie Stefan Dobrich tallied the game winner at 9:23 of the second period before Broden Meloche netted the insurance marker at 10:11 of the third period on a powerplay.

Final shots favoured LaSalle 43-25.  They also dominated in the faceoff circle winning 51 of 70 draws (72.9%).  Dershahn Stewart earned the win in goal.  The Vipers went 1 for 4 on the powerplay while the Rockets were unsuccessful in their lone opportunity. The Rockets have struggled on the road this season winning just 1 game in 8 outings.

The Rockets will head to St. Marys for a match with the Lincolns on Friday, October 20 before hosting the Sarnia Legionnaires, who have yet to win a road game this season, at the WMMC the following night.
