STARS BLANK ROCKETS – STRATHROY SHUTOUT IN 3 OF 5 GAMES

On Friday, October 27 at the Timkin Community Centre in St. Thomas the Rockets losing streak stretched to 5 games with a 2-0 loss to the Stars in front of 650 fans.  The loss marked the third time in five games that the Rockets were shut out by the opposition.  The Rockets’ struggling offense was stifled by the Stars in the opening period with the Rockets managing just 2 shots on goal.

Kevin Hu punctuated the Star’s attack tallying both goals, including the clinching empty net marker with 58 seconds remaining in the contest.  Hu took over the GOJHL lead in both goals scored with 14 and in points with 29 in 15 games.  The game winner came at 10:09 of the opening period.

After a sluggish start the Rockets matched the Stars stride for stride in the remaining two periods.  Final shots favoured the Stars 38-30.  Anthony Hurtubise (4-3) earned his second shutout of the season.  Zack Weir (5-9) was once again stellar in goal for the Rockets, especially in the third period when he denied Curtis Ferreira on a breakaway as the Stars were pressing for the key insurance marker.  Both clubs were unsuccessful on the powerplay.  The Rockets had 2 chances while the Stars had three.  The game featured another incredible performance from Rocket rookie underage defenseman Liam Whittaker.
