BETTER EFFORT, SAME RESULT FOR STRATHROY ROCKETS

The following night in Chatham the Maroons needed a pair of third period goals to squeak out a narrow 3-1 victory over the Rockets in front of 756 fans.  The win moved the sixth place Maroons 9 points up on the Rockets.  Chatham trails fifth place Sarnia by 8 points.

The Rockets and the Maroons exchanged first period goals.  Noah Bushnell opened the scoring when a Josh King shot deflected off of Bushnell’s skate past Rocket goaltender Josh Diamond at 4:43.  Emmet Pierce got that one back at 15:21 converting a nice cross crease pass by Noah Campbell.

After battling through a scoreless second period Bushnell tallied his second goal of the contest and the game winner at 5:04. The goal came just seconds after Chatham netminder Ryan Wagner made a huge stop on a Tristan Sedlak shorthanded breakaway attempt.  Steven Fowler added the key insurance goal at 11:09 finishing off an odd-man rush with Dane Johnstone.

The loss extended the Rockets losing streak to 6 games.  They have won only 2 of their previous 16 games.  The Maroons outshot the Rockets in all three periods for a 48-38 advantage.  Neither team converted on the powerplay.  The Maroons had 3 chances, the Rockets had 4.  Liam Israels had a stellar game on the Rocket blueline.  The game was a goaltending duel between Diamond and Wagner.  They were both selected as their respective game stars.
